El anuncio decía: «Vivienne Westwood murió hoy, en paz y rodeada de su familia, en Clapham, al sur de Londres.
Vivienne continuó haciendo las cosas que amaba, hasta el último momento, diseñando, trabajando en su arte, escribiendo su libro y cambiando el mundo para mejor. Ella llevó una vida increíble. Su innovación e impacto durante los últimos 60 años ha sido inmenso y continuará en el futuro.
Vivienne se consideraba taoísta. Ella escribió: “Sistema espiritual Tao. Hoy nunca hubo más necesidad del Tao. Tao te da la sensación de que perteneces al cosmos y le da un propósito a tu vida; te da tal sentido de identidad y fortaleza saber que estás viviendo la vida que puedes vivir y por lo tanto deberías estar viviendo: haz pleno uso de tu carácter y pleno uso de tu vida en la tierra”.
